About Us
Welcome to Taqueria Sol Azteca
Step into the heart of Rohnert Park, where family traditions and generations of authentic Mexican recipes come alive. Since 1992, Taqueria Sol Azteca has been a cherished establishment, founded by Ernesto and Francisca Lemus with the invaluable help of their children Lissette, Ernesto, Francisco, and Jose. What began as a small taqueria has flourished into a beloved local gem, renowned for its vibrant flavors and warm hospitality.
In 2014, Francisco “Frankie” Lemus took the reins, blending his father’s Michoacan roots and his mother’s Jalisco recipes to elevate Taqueria Sol Azteca into a culinary haven. Frankie’s dedication to innovation and authenticity ensures that every dish carries the rich heritage of his family’s kitchen while embracing the spirit of Northern California.

Our Culinary Journey
Frankie’s passion for creativity and tradition has led to a dynamic and evolving menu. With his mother’s touch as his guide, he continually introduces new dishes that honor both the beauty of Mexico and the local landscape. Under his leadership, Taqueria Sol Azteca has also expanded into a thriving catering business, bringing the same love and dedication to events and gatherings.
“I didn’t want to be that son who took over the business and failed,” Frankie reflects. “I just grinded and grinded, adding recipes and expanding our food into different avenues.” This relentless drive has transformed the taqueria while keeping the heart of his mother’s cooking at its core.
Signature Dishes and Innovations
Every item on our menu is a testament to our commitment to quality and tradition. From our top signature dishes like birria de chivo and birria de res to the award-winning menudo served with homemade tortillas, each bite tells a story. Our fresh salsa roja, a cherished contribution from Frankie’s mother, adds a special touch to our offerings.
For those looking for something unique, we offer the Quesabirrias and the “Ernie’s California” burrito, inspired by Frankie’s father. The younger crowd can’t get enough of our Flamin’ Hot Cheeto Burrito, a playful nod to California’s vibrant food scene.
Frankie’s innovative spirit shines through in creations like the lowrider paletero bike, available for rent at quinceañeras and weddings. These custom-made ice boxes store paletas made from aguas frescas, offering flavors like strawberry, mango, jamaica, and tamarindo—each a tribute to Chicano culture and a testament to our uniqueness.
